FOSAI PRODUCT CATEGORY

Single-turn Absolute Encoders

Compare single-turn absolute encoders for 0–360° position feedback across digital and analog controller interfaces.

CATEGORY OVERVIEW

A single-turn absolute encoder assigns a unique digital or analog value to each angular position within one revolution. It is suited to mechanisms whose required absolute range does not exceed 360 degrees at the encoder shaft. Selection depends on resolution, interface, shaft, flange, speed, protection and controller scaling.

SELECTION CHECKLIST

Compare the requirement before the model.

01

Position range

Confirm that the required absolute measurement does not need retained turn count beyond one revolution.

02

Resolution

Choose bits per revolution from the required machine step and mechanical ratio.

03

Interface

Match RS485 Modbus, CANopen, SSI, BiSS-C or analog input behavior.

04

Mechanics

Confirm shaft or bore, flange, housing, cable exit and permissible speed.

CATEGORY QUESTIONS

Before choosing this category

What happens after more than one revolution?

The reported single-turn angle repeats. Use a multi-turn encoder when the machine must retain completed-turn information.

Does a single-turn absolute encoder need homing?

It can report its current measured angle after power-up, although the machine may still require calibration or a system reference.
